August 30 update - changes to hunger and thirst!
Big changes to the way Hunger and Thirst affect your characters
- You can now order all your characters to consume at the same time by clicking on the big green “Order all survivors to consume rations” button on the Command page. Each character will first attempt to eat something from their backpack and then consume whatever else is needed from the safehouse stores.
- You can also micromanage the individual consumption of rations from the “Manage inventory” page by clicking “Drink liquids from backpack”, “Drink liquids from safehouse”, “Eat food from backpack” or “Eat food from safehouse”.
- Either of the above options will return information on what your characters consumed. We’ll be improving this report over time.
- Hunger and Thirst are now expressed in terms of calories and milliliters of liquids needed. You can see the amount in the Hunger and Thirst bars wherever these are shown.
- Hunger and Thirst will increase by approx. 1% every 15 minutes of real-time.
- Hunger and Thirst will no longer kill your characters. We’re testing this for now. We may return to a harsher approach in future.
- Hunger and Thirst will apply increased penalties to performance if neglected. These were always in place for some stats but have in other cases been introduced or increased. You can see the current penalties by clicking on the “Penalties” link shown under Hunger and Thirst when they are above zero. You will only really need to worry about these if you continually neglect your characters.
- The meds ELE and CAL will now decrease Thirst by 1000 milliliters and 1000 calories, respectively.
- We’ve also added several other free NC providers to give everyone a chance to get NC by completing offers. You can choose between them by clicking the tabs on the top of the “Earn NC” page.
- There was an error in the NC pages which meant that old testing limits were being applied to the ordering of all items. So some of you may have been getting the message “NECRA can not make any more delivery of the requsted items. Check the limits specified for each request”. These limits have now been removed.
Detailed breakdown of penalties from Hunger and Thirst
A character with maximum Hunger and Thirst will receive the following penalties.
1. Firepower (reduced effectiveness)
- -20% at maximum Hunger
- -20% at maximum Thirst
2. Melee (reduced effectiveness)
- -20% at maximum Hunger
- -20% at maximum Thirst
3. Chance of injury (increased probability)
- +20% at maximum Hunger
- +20% at maximum Thirst
4. Bite resistance (decreased resistance)
- -20% at maximum Hunger
- -20% at maximum Thirst
5. Scavenge chance
- +20% at maximum Hunger
- +20% at maximum Thirst
A reduction applied to your survivor’s overall chance of scavenging successfully. If your survivor has +2% from skills, +5% from an infocard, and the base chance of scavenging is 3%, then the chance will be 10% if at zero Hunger and Thirst. If at maximum Hunger and Thirst, the reduction will be 40%, so the modified scavenge chance will be 6%.
6. Injury recovery rate
- -50% at maximum Hunger
- -50% at maximum Thirst
If Hunger and Thirst are at maximum, injury recovery will be twice as slow as normal.
Modifiers (skills, infocards, etc.) will be applied to the above stats before the Hunger and Thirst penalties.
