Dead Set 0

Nobody better than Charlie Brooker to take a swing at Big Brother. His Screenwipe series is as refreshingly cynical as a slap in the face. Enjoyed The Words of Their Roaring, although I’ve never approved of intelligent zombies. Sort of makes them into something else, but the explanation of how the virus is adapting over the years makes this acceptable enough. The concept of survivors like Harry Flowers using the chaos of the undead to gain power is depressingly realistic. I guess that humans always want to gain an advantage no matter what the circumstances. Matthew Smith saves most of the gore for the end of the book and does some interesting things with time by skipping back and forth, giving us a glimpse into a world literally ruled by the dead.
